How To Make Any House Move A Much Simpler Affair

We all know how stressful a house move can be. We hear about often enough. Lost boxes, furniture that gets stuck, there are all kinds of factors that can make it an organizational nightmare. But it doesn’t have to be quite that bad. Most people who have such a stressful experience are usually suffering from their own lack of preparation more than anything. With the right steps, a move will be a busy and exhausting time, yes, but at least it will go a lot more smoothly. Keep reading to see what you can do to make your move simpler than most.

Lightening the load

One of the things that becomes abundantly clear during just about any move is how much stuff we tend to accumulate over the years. A lot of it will be moving with you, no doubt, but just as much might not be. Start months before the move, cleaning through your home inch by inch. Decide what you’re going to take and what you’re not. If you get selling and donating early, there will be much less clutter on the day.

Save plenty of money

Regardless of how much organization you do, you’re likely going to be running into some costs. From paying a moving company to make one more trip to changing the locks on the new home. Budget every aspect of the move. Then save a little more for unexpected twists and turns. There are bound to be some, so let them stress you out. Keep some money on the side by saving a little each day.

Get organized

Moving day itself can be a hassle, especially if you haven’t prepared. The worst case scenario is your friends or movers arriving before you have everything packed. Avoid that by packing weeks in advance. Not everything, of course. Start packing the things you’re definitely not going to need yet. As you get closer to the day, pack more stuff. Make sure you color code your boxes so the movers know where to put it, as well. Make sure you’ve done your research on the moving companies, too. Make sure they’re going to do everything you need them to. Whether that’s just the drive or actually helping you take stuff into the new home.

Odds and ends

There are a lot of little things that can add up stress, so think about how to tackle them early. With bolts and screws that you need, put them in baggies and note their purpose. Take pictures of your electronics from behind so you have an easy guide for setting them back up. Change your address at least a week before you move. Take care of as many odds and ends so that acclimating to the new place is much smoother.

The overnight bag

A lot of moves are an affair that take at least a whole day. You might not have your new home entirely set up by the time night falls. An overnight bag can make that night a much easier experience. Make sure you pack everything you need. Toiletries, easy food and even something to keep you entertained or distracted.
