Rustic interiors are all the rage at the moment. Modern minimalist design is starting to fall out of fashion in favor of exposed brick walls and traditional wooden furniture. It’s a great style that is timeless so you don’t have to worry about it falling out of fashion. The only problem is, it can get pretty expensive. Luckily, there are some handy tricks you can use to get the same great effect without the hefty price tag. Here’s how to decorate your house in a rustic style on a budget.
Reclaimed Wood
One of the things that makes rustic interiors so expensive is the price of wood. Buying brand new wood to create furniture or wooden wall panels is going to set you back a bit, but you can do it a lot cheaper and get a better effect if you use reclaimed wood. It’s way cheaper to buy and it’s often got a more authentic look than using brand new stuff. Most lumber yards will have some on offer but you can also try to source your own. It’s perfect for picture frames, headboards, furniture and pretty much anything else you can think of.
Vinyl Flooring
Wooden flooring is another great feature of rustic interiors but it can be expensive and time consuming. If you’re lucky enough to have some good quality wooden floorboards under your carpet, you can sand them down and re varnish them but it’s a big job to take on. Paying somebody to do it is going to cost you as well. If the floorboards under your carpet are in bad condition, fixing them up is another cost to add on. The thing is, you can get the same great effect without the hassle or the hefty price tag if you install some luxury vinyl floorboards with wood effect instead. They’re simple to install and cheap to buy compared to proper wooden floorboards.
Wall Stickers
Good wall art is a staple of rustic interiors but a lot of the things that people usually use are old antiques that don’t fit into your price range if you’re decorating on a budget. Wall stickers are a great alternative to expensive ornaments. There are some great places that do custom wall stickers so you can design some that fit with your rustic interior and use those instead of wall art.
Fake Brick
An exposed brick wall is a staple of rustic decor but it’s a real pain to do. If you pay somebody else to do it, it’ll cost you a lot and make a huge mess. Doing it yourself is a massive job to take on so it’s better to use the alternative; fake brick. Most good hardware stores do a false brick effect wall covering that you can just put up like wallpaper. Obviously, it’s not quite the same as a real exposed brick wall but it still looks great and it’s worth making that small sacrifice to save yourself a lot of time and money.
Rustic interiors don’t need to be expensive and time consuming, just use these simple shortcuts and you can do it on a budget.
