One of the biggest concerns that we all have, is getting older. For some reason, it’s a huge fear that intimidates us all, and this is put down to the fact that it is inevitable. It’s something that we can’t control. We can’t pause the time and keep the bodies we have right now – it doesn’t work that way. But that’s okay, because getting older is a beautiful thing.
Getting older means that you’re wiser. You have already had experience, and while you are still having them, you are that little bit more educated. As you age, you tend to have more of a quiet confidence, and that comes from not allowing things to effect you like they maybe once did. Not only that, but there are plenty of things to look forward to – like the future. The mystery and excitement that that holds. The adventure, the journey, and every chapter that go with it.
So stop worrying about the things that can’t be stopped, and instead, focus on all the wonderful things that there are to look forward to, as well as what you can do to not only feel better from within, but look better too.
Here’s how:
Keep your body moving
There is nothing better than that feeling of accomplishment after an exhausting workout that has left your legs turning into jelly and your abs hard like steel. Although you will feel tired after – it’s a good kind of tired. Your brain will have released all the endorphins that make you feel euphoric, and your body will have been pushed even further again. Your body needs to have at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. You want to get that heart pumping and the blood running all around your body, as that is what keeps everything circulating, enhancing your movements and motions. This is why a lot of the older generation find a lot of things difficult, because they aren’t as active as they once were. Motivation is one of the hardest things to battle, this is why a lot of people opt to workout at the gym because you don’t have much of a choice to do nothing. But if that’s not your style, then workout from home. Go for a run or take up dancing. The more fun you get out of it, the easier it will become.
Keep your skin firm and tight
One of the most common complaints with old age, is getting wrinkles. Nobody wants them, they’re a nuisance, and yet if you don’t do anything about it, you’ll just have to get used to having them there. The main areas that are affected are around the eyes, the mouth, the forehead, and even the neck. So how to get rid of turkey neck for good without having to spend tons of money on a cosmetic procedure? – A great skincare routine. You’d be amazed by how much of an impact a little bit of cream or oil can have. Wrinkles are caused by the skin losing its elasticity, which results in it getting looser and eventually ends up sagging, which cause the skin to crease and cause a wrinkle. So do your research and choose the best kind of treatments that will keep your skin hydrated, plump, and tight.
Keep your vitamin intake intact
You need to ensure that you are giving your body all the things that it needs, like nutrients, vitamins, fiber, protein, and calcium, and only you can make sure that you are getting them all. No matter how many times you hear about eating well and in moderation – you’re the only person that can make a difference – so make sure you do. It’s important that you change up your intake too. It’s no good just living on a constant supply of apples, pasta, chicken, and yogurt. Your body will eventually get used to it, and even while the food gives you what you need, sooner or later you can still become malnourished because your body will get used to it all, and then the effect wears off. You should also wipe out anything that’s not good for you. Not necessarily completely, because we all know how good a chocolate bar is here and there – just not 3 a day. It’s unhealthy, carries far too much sugar and artificial flavors, and it won’t do your skin any favors either. So think about the bigger picture the next time you want to fill your face with ice cream.
Keep your brain active
The brain is just as an important muscle as the body, if not more, so you should make sure you’re giving it all the exercise it needs too. If you imagine as you get older – especially when you stop working – your brain will stop working as hard because it won’t have anything to do. And then it’ll become lazy and stop functioning as it once did, leaving it vulnerable to more diseases like Alzheimer’s for example. So instead of letting your brain fade away – do something. Read a book, and then another. Do puzzles like crosswords and Sudoku, and figure out tough math equations. The more stimulation your create for your brain – the harder it has to work. You could even get creative and make a hobby out of what you are doing so you keep it up. See if you like drawing or painting, or maybe you’re more into music like playing the piano or the guitar. Whatever it is, just make sure it’s something that you enjoy doing. It’s no good disliking it because you will just stop.
Keep your friends closer
There comes a time where you may realize that you don’t have a lot of people to talk to anymore. This could be for a number of reasons, but whether it was your fault or not, you should definitely make an effort to have positive people around you. Friends can have a huge impact on the way you live your life. They are there for you when you’re feeling down about yourself. They make you smile and get your weird sense of humor. They take you out of your shell and push you to achieve greatness. And they’re always there at 3 am to tell you he wasn’t worth it. So you need to have them – for your own sanity. You don’t want to spend your days alone at home, because this can start to affect you in more ways than one – starting with depression. And that’s a slippery slope that no one should have to deal with – especially not alone. So make that phone call and arrange a dinner. Give yourself a good excuse to dress up real pretty, put on those fancy shoes and that glittery dress, and go and treat yourself!
Before you know it – you’ll start to enjoy so many more things in your life. You will have a better outlook on things, and a positive attitude, and you will begin to see that getting older really isn’t all that bad. The future is bright, and you should seize every single opportunity that comes around the corner – because you can. So push yourself. Make more of an effort to keep your body and mind healthy, because then you have one less thing to worry about in this world of adventure. The sooner you do that, the sooner you can live a free life full of excitement.
