We’ve all seen the movie 127 Hours, where James Franco’s character is trapped out in the desert after being injured. It’s the stuff of nightmares and the absolute last thing you’d want to happen when on vacation. Now, the point of a vacation is to have a relaxing and enjoyable time of things. And this is important because it gives you the chance to unwind and switch off from daily life.
But, you can’t avoid the fact that you may well become injured on your vacation. Accidents and situations happen, and they are often unavoidable. But, you have to understand the kind of action you need to take if disaster strikes. These are a few of the things you need to make sure you do if you’re injured while on vacation.
Let People Know Where You Are Going
You always need to take preemptive measures with things like this. It’s important that you make sure you do as much as possible to let people know where you’re going. That way you will give yourself a safety net to fall back on. If you are missing for a while, people will start to notice. They will know where you were going and can send people out to look for you. This is a sensible thing to do, especially if you are vacationing abroad, or setting off on an expedition. Keeping people informed is a wonderful way to enjoy a safer and more organized trip. A lot of people don’t do this and end up setting off on their own into places like the Outback. This is never advisable if you haven’t been there before. Please make sure you always let someone know where you’re headed so you protect yourself in the event that anything should happen.
Don’t Panic
The worst thing you can do in a situation like this is to panic. This is only going to make things worse and more distressing. One of the golden rules of successfully traveling with a family is that you remain calm. The kids need to know they are in safe hands, and if you panic it will cause them to panic. This makes everything worse for everybody and will not help if one of you is injured. So try to remain calm as much as possible, and remember that you told people where you were going. Someone who’ll be out looking for you at some point. Panicking in a situation like this only exacerbates things and leads to further problems.
Make Contact
It’s important to try to get in touch with the authorities. If you have vacationed to somewhere remote, then there may not be an easy way back. And this means calling them (so make sure you carry a phone with you). You might be out in the desert or up in the mountains when you get injured. In this instance, you’re going to need air ambulance services to rescue you. You will most likely be given a form of contact or communication before you embark. Something like a flare, radio, or SOS code. Of course, you could always use your phone as well while you’re at it. You’re never going to benefit from air rescue services if the emergency services don’t know where you are and that you need help. That’s why it’s essential that you try to make contact as soon as your injury occurs.
Getting injured at the best of times can be an unpleasant experience. But getting injured on vacation can be quite disturbing and upsetting. You’re in a foreign country, and English may not be the first language. So you have to follow the ideas on here and make sure you use them to help you deal with your injury.
